Both you and your dog will be significantly happier once he is trained. A well-trained dog means that you both know what to expect from each other. Once a dog is trained, no one will have to worry about leaving the animal home alone. The time that you spend training your dog will pay off tenfold.
Crate train your puppy in small steps, so that the training is most effective. When they seem comfortable in it with the door open, try shutting the gate and feed them treats through the wires. Start off with small periods, for example 10 seconds or so, and gradually increase crate time. If the dog doesn’t like it, slow the process.
Only reward your dog if they are calm. When your dog responds to a command in the right way, you should reward this behavior when he is calm. Though you might be satisfied with this type of accomplishment, excitement may lead to your pet having diminished control over the situation. Stay calm and bestow rewards calmly too.
Keep your dog on a healthy diet. An unhealthy diet can have several negative effects on your dog. If your dog isn’t getting what it needs to stay healthy, it could really struggle to find the energy for training or may act out in other ways. Training may very well go easier when dogs are given the proper nutrients in a healthful diet.
Give your puppy with lots of chewable toys, otherwise he might alleviate his teething pain on your nice furniture. Immediately replace it with one of his designated chew toys. If painful teething is the problem, let the puppy chew on a wet washcloth that has been frozen.
Your dog needs to be up to date on his training. This will help to make them more obedient. Canine training must be practiced to maintain obedience behavior, and that is one thing that many owners neglect to remember. But pets and humans actually share the same types of habit learning systems; if they don’t practice they will forget! It is important that the training your dog receives is reinforced regularly.
You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. You can have your dog sit or roll over. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog’s head to the opposite side. He will follow the treat by rolling over. When they roll over, yell “roll over.” Keep doing this until they do it just with the command. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park!
The important thing to understand about dog training is that it is about setting a precedence of what is expected from the relationship. The two of you will get so much more from each other once you figure this out. Do not forget to remind your dog of what he has learned. Watch out for any deviations from the proper behavior, and keep him on his toes. After you have laid the groundwork with your dog, the sky is the limit.
