Cats are a great animal to keep in your home or apartment. Apart from the affection they give, cats also serve a practical purpose by keeping pests out of the house. Cats do a lot for the home and many people overlook that.
Drape Cords
Make sure you don’t allow your cat to be around drape cords. It is easy for the cat to get his head caught among the cords when playing with them. This could even choke them to death. Pin and hide drape cords to avoid this.
Regular vet checkups for your cat are very important. Cats need yearly shots and overall health assessments. When you find a vet you like, stick with them. You won’t have to worry that the vet won’t have all of your cat’s medical records.
If your cat is female, you need to get it spayed at the proper age. If an indoor cat gets out, you may soon have kittens. If you want to prevent this, spay your cat.
Ensure that your cat goes to the vet often so that they are healthy. They should go in for a routine check-up at least once a year, possibly more if they need important shots. If a condition, illness, or injury happens, your cat should be taken to the vet immediately.
Spraying the electrical cords in your home with a bitter apple solution helps keep the cats from chewing on them. Cords should be covered, especially if your cat tends to chew on them. Hide those loose cords and keep them out of sight in no longer needed paper towel rolls. Put your electronics away so your cat is not tempted to chew on the cords.
Cat’s claws can really put a dent in your furniture. If you are having problems with your cat clawing up furniture, then purchase a scratching post or kitty tower. They can scratch this instead. It doesn’t happen overnight but with some patience, you should be able to save your house from the claws.
Don’t allow your cat to get bored too often. Although you may believe that cats just lie around, this isn’t the case. They need their exercise. Unfortunately there are too many cat owners who don’t properly exercise their cats. Cats that are frequently bored may develop OCD, depression or other harmful conditions. Give them toys and things to do. You need to provide your cats with something they can climb and scratch.
Put the litter box in an ideal location. Don’t put it close to your cat’s food or in an area that gets too much traffic. Put it in a ventilated area to reduce odors. Both you and your pet will appreciate that.
Cats are great mousers. Cats are great hunters and can make kills more frequently than dogs at times. These skills are one of the many reason cats make such wonderful pets.
